I believe in the principles of Natural Law, that all rights originate from each individual's humanity - they are not, and cannot, be granted by government. Individuals create government in order to facilitate the protection of our natural rights from those who would choose to violate them, such as thieves, murders, or perpetrators of fraud. This philosophy creates a free society which allows each individual to live his or her life as he or she chooses, so long as one individual's actions do not violate the natural rights of another individual.

Since government is created by individuals, it can therefore only have powers delegated to it which individuals already have naturally existing in themselves. For example, if I don't have the right to forcibly take something from one person and give it to another person to fulfill my vision of what's best for "the common good," then I as an individual could not have delegated this power to the government.

Our founding fathers knew this fact all too well and they wrote a magnificent set of documents to create a free society in this image. Unfortunately, the individual freedoms that our founding documents were meant to protect have been dramatically eroded, and I intend to do everything in my power to educate people on these fundamental principles of liberty and freedom so that one day we might all be free, with equal justice under the law.
