1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Liz Ping:
Single parenting and library experience, currently co-owning a small business, and being an involved community member - I believe this makes me our founding fathers' envisioned state representative. While listening to and understanding the challenges facing Ohio citizens, I will work on legislation and find resources that will bring assistance.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Liz Ping:
Education is the key to our future. By advocating for and supporting efforts toward top quality education, I will be working to make our district an acceptable environment for new businesses, thus bringing badly needed jobs to our district. I will look for and implement any available resources to accomplish these goals. This is what the 29th District needs not only to survive, but be ready to thrive as the economy improves.

3. Ohio is facing a huge budget deficit for the FYs ending in 2012 and 2013. What specific revenue increases would you support and what cuts would you make to balance the budget? (150 word limit)

Answer from Liz Ping:
Entrepreneurship must be encouraged! Businesses provide jobs; jobs lead to spending which puts money into the economy. 'Green' products and energy systems are taking off; Ohio is involved in producing this environmentally friendly technology. But we need to develop practical and marketable products, build factories to produce and supply product volume that makes us competitive with China, Germany, etc. Again, quality education will impact the location of such businesses. As for cuts to the budget, any cuts will be painful; we need to be wise and cautious what cuts are applied. Audits of current spending within the government could provide information on how to be more efficient and determine where consolidation would be more frugal. Cuts can mean loss of jobs; I hope to find budget cuts that will keep employees' jobs. Whatever the answers, we must all work together to reduce the impact of cuts as much as possible.

4. What should be done to ensure that all community schools and nonpublic schools that accept state financial support (including vouchers) are accountable to the public? (150 word limit)

Answer from Liz Ping:
To ensure quality education across the board, accountability is absolutely essential. I believe that to ensure all our children receive the best education possible, all 'schools' - even those that are non-traditional, should be required to "hire quality teachers, have fiscal and academic accountability and should not be funded by for-profit management services" as is stated in the Education Reform Bill. From what I understand, the Ohio Department of Education has been given the responsibility to hold all schools accountable. Schools that can meet these requirements will be providing our children with the education they need to reach their dreams and improve the future of all Ohioans.
