Board Member; Oxnard Elementary School District

As an educator, my top priority is for our children to be prepared with an excellent education taught with the best-qualified teachers. Our teachers now receive ongoing support and training and students' instruction guided with quality academic materials for ALL children.

I am proud to report, and thank the taxpayers, that our children now enjoy two beautiful new schools, three modernized and one in the process. Children now attend school in a normal traditional school year, having moved from year-round education, a detrimental educational practice in place for over 30 years.

Even through drastic and devastating cuts of over $17 million by the state, furlough days have been avoided along with minimal staff reductions. This means no loss of classroom educational time for students. To save over $800,000 in energy costs, I have actively participated in implementing strategies to reduce energy waste. I am further proposing greater energy cost savings by researching solar energy.

Tremendous strides have been made. The task has been difficult, but necessary, and one that needs to be continued. I know and understand our Children and Community.
