? 1. In this time of high unemployment, what are the most important steps that should be taken to improve our nation’s economy?

Answer from Paul G Lazaga:

Federal government should reduce its spending and bureaucratic burdens on business. Attempts by the government to micro-manipulate the economy through targeted special interest supports has proven to be ineffective, if not damaging.

? 2. How should federal budget priorities be changed, now and into the future? How will you balance the costs of military action overseas and national security with the costs of domestic needs?

Answer from Paul G Lazaga:

Historic military bases and installations outside the US need to be drawn down and responsibilities turned over to those governments. Military action needs to be curtailed to direct military threats. The number of standing military needs to be drawn down to meet this new reality.

? 3. What, if anything, should be done by the federal government to address our dependence on fossil fuels or spur the use of clean energy?

Answer from Paul G Lazaga:

The federal government should not influence the type of research being done in new technologies by choosing and funding the type of technology it believes is correct, thereby decreasing efforts in other promising areas. The most efficient technologies are chosen by adoption, not by coercion.

? 4. What, if any, changes should be made to current federal policies or programs that promote or provide health coverage for Americans?

Answer from Paul G Lazaga:

Federal policies have created a huge burden of compliance on the health industry and taken out the will to creative solutions as the industry is only allowed to operate within the confines of restrictive regulation. While I don't support complete de-regulation I do support eliminating regulations that create a non-competitive environment bringing the equivalent to monopolistic behavior within the health care and insurance industry.

? 5. What, if any, changes should be made to federal rules on campaign financing or disclosure of political expenditures?

Answer from Paul G Lazaga:

Restrictions on contribution amounts should be eliminated, but full disclosure of all sources above a certain amount should be required.
