Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Tatsuo "Tats" Okaya

Candidate for
Board Member; Geyserville Fire Protection District

This information is provided by the candidate

The intention behind my candidacy is three-fold. First, to help individual fellow firefighters to become more indispensable so that they will be more highly appreciated and rewarded. Second, to help raise GFPD's performance with more effective use of individual talents and more efficient allocation of taxpayers funds. Third, to create and promote a situation where everybody, including individual firefighters, members of the community, and GFPD, gets to be a winner by collaborating to make a difference.

In an environment where individuals are encouraged to think and create using their skills and talents, people perform at a much higher level doing what s/he believes and naturally make themselves indispensable as they play their roles. In the highly collaborative culture of firefighters, when a right framework is in place, a collective of such high performing individuals can be extraordinarily efficient and effective. My contribution will be, as a coach and strategist, to extracting high performance from individual and collective firefighters and GFPD to make a difference.

Our world is changing with a fundamental shift in power and value. Owning the means of creation changes everything. Today, the means of creation can be a laptop computer with Internet connectivity to reach the world and promote what one creates. If the factories are our minds - if what the world values is human-to-human engagement, insight and creativity - then capital isn't nearly the factor it used to be.

There seems to be new emerging group of people who are not traditional laborers nor are they captains of industry, but who are straddling elements of both by leveraging something internal, not external, to create a position of power and control. I identify firefighters to be such a group of people.

In a battalion of great firefighters, everybody knows that s/he is the owner of necessary skills, and with talent s/he performs an indispensable role, and for survival s/he chooses to collaborate with trust in others so that everybody gets to win. Mastering the communication, conceptual, and connectivity aspects of GFPD's activities, it could perform at a much higher level if each member realizes that s/he actually owns the power and the means to create value and promote what s/he is so passionate about so that the community would recognize and be compelled to give rewards - the relationship much like an artist and the audience.

I believe, going to work with this mindset makes a big difference.
