I am a recently retired school lawyer. Over the past 30 years I have represented many California school districts and community colleges on a full array of legal and personnel issues. My approach has always stressed the value of doing things right to avoid legal pitfalls and expensive litigation. An ounce of prevention can save a ton of costs.

With this background, I will be the taxpayer's advocate, committed to ending the Board's wasteful and distracting spending, which includes:

  • Approving the former President's severance package which exceeded the legal limit by over $1,000,000

  • Opposing a taxpayer's lawsuit challenging the unlawful payments

  • Appealing (unsuccessfully) the Court's decision in favor of the taxpayer

  • Failing to seek recoupment of the unlawful expenditures, despite the Court's ruling

  • Paying the former President's legal costs throught this litigation

NOW IS THE TIME TO REVERSE COURSE BY PUTTING THE INTERESTS OF THE COLLEGE, ITS STUDENTS AND TAXPAYERS FIRST. In these difficult economic times our community colleges play a special role in preparing students for the future and the jobs of tomorrow. With competent and dedicated leadership, MiraCosta's reputation can be restored to its historic excellence. To that end I pledge my time and my best efforts.
