My ideas for Santee
"As one of thew worst injured in the 2003 cedar fies, I personally know the need for public safety. I was burned in the 2003 cedar fires, 65-70% of my body regrafted and now 50 surgeries later, Running for Santee City Council is a opportunity to repay the community for my existence.

I intend on making Santee City once again one of the most progressive cities in the United States. Through community fiscal responsibility, creating new jobs and a conservative eye on our environment creating an excellent fire protection. I would like to see Santee step back into its agricultural roots and establish a community garden. This garden being ran thought the Santee food bank, allows for children to experience growing first hand, While also providing the needy with fresh, non-toxic,organic food. I would also be interested in moving Santee City into a eco-green self subsistence. Through a solar grid established in Santee; one simple solar panel on every house, linked not for the single domicile but for the whole community. Allowing reduced rates for our Santee residents, most of the funding would be State and/or Federal grants. Another idea is a Dew Water Collection System, in which a plastic sheeting system is placed with a pvc gutter running under for water collection. This collection runs to a main collector where water is stored. Every morning as air passes through the plastic sheets, evaporate forms, running as drops into the collector and storing for palatable use later. Free water out of the air!!!

I understand that Santee city is currently facing issues; from traffic to general public safety. The idea is that we Santee band as a real community and work together to deal with each issue as it arises. Traffic will be reduced significantly in Feb/march when the new 67 over pass is finished; although i am afraid it may cause a "downtown" syndrome, reducing the business flow through our city. many have said that with the 67 over pass, we will have more expanse and population, which is true. With the County of San Diego forcing Santee City to have and deal with Las Colinas woman prison, which is overwhelmingly opposed by Santee residents. our only option is to find a way to live with the peoples that come in and out of that jail. Coming at a price of less public safety and more population to deal with.

Once elected to Santee City council i would also look into Santee having a possible Hospital. A dire need in out county, with only one in the whole area, especially in emergency situations. As our community grows, we need a medical treatment closer to home. If our county doesn't care to make changes, we the members must make the necessary changes needed to protect our own loved ones.

I have ran for 2nd district county supervisor in 2008, only to be the "squeaky wheel" for our Fire situation in San Diego. As I ran we had the "Witch creek" fires, I was asked to testify at the Assembly hearing on why San Diego keeps burning. In my testimony I explained that San Diego had a "honors Camp" which were inmates clearing and maintaining fire break roads. In the year 2000, the county Supervisors eliminated that program. Since then San Diego burned time after time. I received a outstanding number of votes and was asked to run for Santee city. Knowing i had limited time and funding i simply put my name on the ballot and ran, finding that i was running against the mayor for his step down seat. Again i knew that i had little chance but wanted to keep my name recognition. i received 4000+ votes here in Santee city, pulling a hard second to the mayor! today i am running for three open seats on Santee city council and feel I have a good chance of winning with the communities support, for that I thank you.

Again my only intent is to pay back to the doctors, firefighters, policeman, and the community as a whole for my spared life after the fires. I believe that public service is the best spot to accomplish that. Please help me through your vote." Rudy Reyes
