Judge Wanger Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Water Supply Ruling Impact
Judge Wanger made a ruling in 2007 that ordered a historic reduction in supplies from the Delta. The single largest court-ordered water curtailment in state history. California simply cannot lose important water supplies without economic consequences. The Delta needs a comprehensive solution including new ways to isolate the impacts of water diversions from the estuary.
San Diego County Water Authority Water Rate Challenge Against Metropolitan Water District of Southern California
Water Authority Board approved filing suit against the MWD challenging the methodology for determining water rates. The allegation is that their methodology unfairly places a disproportionate cost burden on the Water Authority. San Diego County ratepayers may be overcharged as much as $230 million annually by 2021. The Water Authority Board of Directors is approaching this issue properly.
El Monte Valley Groundwater Recharge, Mining, and Reclamation Project
The El Monte Valley Project is being pursued by the Helix WD in partnership with the Padre Dam MWD. The primary purpose is to create a local water supply. The estimated project cost is $270 million dollars. Issues such as mining operations and water rate impacts to Helix WD and Padre Dam MWD customers need to be fully addressed.
