Phoenix, Arizona was my birthplace and where I obtained my early education. My mother was a teacher and my father a produce farmer. I have one sister, a teacher, and a brother who worked for the airlines. During my high school years I played football, was on the wrestling and baseball teams. Music played a very important part of my life during school as I was always in the band. In my senior year I was named to the All Arizona High School Band. My summers, weekends and holidays, in high school were spent at "hard labor" on the farm mostly loading boxcars with boxes of produce. That is when I became "inspired" to attend college. I left for college in the summer of 1960, never to return home for more than a few weeks. I attended Northern Arizona University on a music scholarship. I graduated from college in three years obtained my masters in the forth year and headed for California to get a job in the teaching profession.

Escondido has been my home since 1964 where I have been a professional educator for the past 46 years. My first 16 years were spent as a teacher followed by 16 years as a principal (Del Dios Middle School, Hidden Valley Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School and Pioneer Elementary School) I also served at the district level as a curriculum specialist and coordinator of Pupil Services. From 2002 to 2006 I was an adjunct professor at California State University, San Marcos. The past eight years I have had the honor and pleasure of serving the community as an elected member of your board of education.

I am married (45 years) to a former teacher in the EUSD, Mary Beth, who taught 35 years in Escondido schools. We have one so, Jeff, who is currently the assistant principal at San Marcos Middle School. And, we are blessed with three grandsons; Casey, a freshman at SPHS, Eric, a 5th grader at L.R. Green and Alex, a second grader at L.R. Green.

My community activities have included serving as a cub scout (Cub Master, Juniper School) and boy scout leader, troop 669. Both my son and I are Eagle Scouts and our grandsons are involved and advancing well toward their scouting goals.

I have served on the EYE board, the Community Services Commission, the Heart Association board, been a member of the Leukemia/Lymphoma TEAM in Training, running nine full marathons while raising over $20,000 to aid research for finding a cure for blood cancers. I have been a member of Toastmasters, Optimist Club and am currently a member of the Escondido Rotary Club serving as Club Service Director. I also serve on the Chief of Police, Community Advisory Team. For the past eight years I have been a member and program chairperson for the California Retired Teachers' Association, Division 63.

Recent awards have included being named as EUSD "Administrator of the Year", 2001, and ACSA Region XVIII Pupil Services "Administrator of the Year", 2000.

My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Arts and a Doctorate from Northern Arizona University.

My hobbies include: reading, yoga, disc golf, swimming, water aerobics, traveling, mountain biking and spending time with my grandsons.
