MERCADO + COMMITTED TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE! South County teacher/principal 32 years... Received State/National recognition for increased college enrollment, improved academic achievement, vocational/technical training, health/counseling programs, partnerships with government/industry for vocational training.

MERCADO + PROVEN RECORD OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Experience managing multi-million dollar district budget...$332 million Sweetwater High School District:

During State budget crisis, No contract teachers laid off, no student programs cut, school graduation rates improved, and college transfer rate increased

MERCADO + FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR FACILITY IMPROVEMENT BOND - $640 million to meet student & community needs:

New high schools/classrooms constructed, modernization of existing schools with new technology, vocational/technical training center with emphasis on training for the workforce.

MERCADO + Experience will Accomplish:

Complete corner lot project to increase student access to quality education... build bridge between high schools & Southwestern College to increase student transfers to universities and vocational/technical training to meet business' demands.

Strong advocate for Southwestern College's fair share of State funding.
