Board Member; San Marcos Unified School District

Sharon has been a San Marcos Unified School District Governing Board Member since 1998. The district's accomplishments during her tenure include:

  • Increased scores on the Academic Performance Index for each significant subgroup within the district
  • Increased staff development, which is crucial to student success
  • On-time completion of six new schools (four elementary, one middle, and one high school)
  • Completion of the North County Regional Education Center
  • Transition of K-8 schools from multi-track to single track
  • Transition of all district schools (K-12) to a single calendar
  • Formation of P.A.C.E. Promise + guaranteed acceptance to CSUSM if specific criteria is met Sharon has lived in San Marcos since 1971 and is a graduate of San Marcos High School. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting from San Diego State University and has worked in various related positions in private business. Sharon is a 2010 graduate of Leadership North County from CSUSM. Currently, she works full-time as a Realtor with North County Associated Brokers and plans to obtain her broker's license in 2011. In addition, she works part-time as a Controller for a local company.

Sharon has been married for 32 years to Dan Jenkins, a resident of San Marcos since 1964. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Heather, students in San Marcos Unified schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Jennifer, a San Marcos High School graduate, is a graduate of San Diego State University. Heather is a senior at University of San Diego.

Sharon has been involved as a parent volunteer at Woodland Park, Discovery, and Richland Elementary Schools, Woodland Park Middle School, San Marcos and Mission Hills High Schools and the San Marcos Education Foundation. In addition, she served as a coordinator of the successful 1996 $21.8 million school facilities bond campaign and is actively involved in the Prop K for KIDS campaign. Currently, she is a Board Member of the Valley of Discovery Education Foundation and Connected Through Kids (a non-profit organization serving foster children and their families).
