San Diego County, CA November 2, 2010 Election
Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Darlene Hansen

Candidate for
Board Member; San Pasqual Union Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate

For the past 4 years we have cut and tightened our belt every time that the budget was reduced at the state level or we had declining enrollment. Inspite of all the cuts, we still managed to give our teachers several good raises in pay and benefits. Good teachers deserve all the pay we can afford and we have always given them the best raises possible. Unlike many districts in the county, we are still in the black fiscally. Our API and AYP remain high, as we do not decrease educational programs that benefit children. I will continue to work to keep the budget balanced and cuts away from the children.
All children can learn and putting them in programs which enhance their abilities is critical, so making sure that each child has access to technology at school has always been high on my agenda. Helping those with language or economic difficulties is paramount to unlocking the potential in each child. We must keep our music, PE, and art and increase use of our science labs and encourage reading. In addition, we must institute programs that teaching 'critical thinking' skills to children.
