WHY I AM SEEKING RE-ELECTION TO CORONADO CITY COUNCIL

I am seeking re-election because Coronado needs a clear and consistent voice on council that (a) speaks for our residents, taxpayers and small business owners, (b) is not beholden to special interests, (c) includes all viewpoints in decision-making, and (d) infuses ethics, civility, respect, professionalism and transparency into city government.

Since being sworn into office in June 2008, with your bi-partisan support I have:

(1) Stopped the colossal waste of taxpayers' dollars and shut down the tunnel project,

(2) Stopped the study to remove six Orange Avenue bus stops and replace them with parking spaces,

(3) Removed two lobbying firms from our city payroll,

(4) Established our city government ethics hotline,

(5) Improved public disclosure of city expense checks,

(6) Added eight homes to our historic preservation program,

(7) Initiated more disaster preparedness classes through our city education program,

(8) Hosted monthly SPEAK OUT CORONADO community meetings in our public library.

Upon re-election, I will continue to work hard in order to:

(A) Implement fiscal discipline and eliminate our budget's growing operating deficit, and

(B) Enhance our quality of life and property values by:

(i) Reducing traffic congestion through
cost-effective means,

(ii) Strengthening code enforcement,

(iii) Managing density in reasonable ways that reflect our community values.

In order to avoid conflicts of interest, as well as the appearance of conflicts of interest, I am not practicing law while serving the public as city councilwoman. I enjoy devoting my time fully to our city.

As an attorney, I have experience in land use, water law and civil defense litigation.

I worked in private practice, San Diego City Hall, San Diego District Attorney's Office, and United States Senator Dianne Feinstein's San Diego Office.

I enjoy being active in different service groups because it allows me to keep my finger on the pulse of our community. My community service helps me to be a fair and balanced decision-maker on council. My affiliations are:

(1) Bridge and Bay Garden Club, First Vice President

(2) Community Emergency Response Team, Active Member

(3) Coronado Emergency Radio Operators, Active Member

(4) Crown Garden Club, Recording Secretary

(5) Daughters of the American Revolution, Chaplain

(6) Soroptimist Club, Executive Board Member.

In the interest of transparency, I publish my voting record at http://www.barbaratdenny.com. I invite you to take some time to view my record.
