Dr. Arapostathis was born in La Mesa and has lived his entire life in the Jewel of the Hills. He has witnessed La Mesa's development into a charming hamlet nestled in the hills of San Diego County which attracts residents in search of a better life outside the hustle and bustle of the City of San Diego.

As a youth, Dr. Arapostathis attended Lemon Avenue Elementary School and La Mesa Middle School.

He graduated high school from Helix High School.

He has been a teacher in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District for 18 years.

He is currently teaching 2nd grade at Rolando Elementary School.

  • 2004 - Named the Athenagoras Humanitarian of the Year
  • 2004 - San Diego County Office of Education and Old Globe Theatre Bravissimo Award
  • 2000 - La Mesa + Spring Valley School District Teacher of the Year
  • 2000 - Honored as one of the top ten teachers in San Diego County
  • 1999 - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors proclaimed March 9th, "Mark Arapostathis Day"
  • 1999 - California Center for the Arts Education Achievement Award
  • 1995 PTA 9th district Honorary Service Award
