Maintaining fiscal solvency in tough times

By Jill Hunter

Candidate for Council Member; City of Saratoga

This information is provided by the candidate
For the last four years, as a Saratoga Council member, I have worked long and hard to see that Saratogans continue to enjoy the services to which they are accustomed in these tight budgetary times.
When I ran for Council in 2006 I was very concerned about the loss of many of our citizen run commissions due to budgetary problems and immediately sought to return them. Because Saratoga is a minimum services City with a relatively small commercial tax base, we do not have an excess of funds . I feel strongly that when a community is in such a situation it is important to get the citizens involved and use their talents to help matters. I am pleased to say that that is the situation in Saratoga. By initiating local groups like the Village Gardeners and the Saratoga Village Development Council I have gotten citizens to feel welcome in the community and volunteer their time. As a result, I am proud to say, Saratoga is a well run City with a devoted and experienced staff and a happy citizenry who feels part of the process.
