Youth and Seniors

By Curtis Cole

Candidate for Council Member; City of Los Altos

This information is provided by the candidate
A healthy city supports its citizens of all generations
We have a rising student population and a growing set of people aged 55 and older. I want to live in a city with three active and engaged generations. Seniors can tutor reading and math at our schools. Do we invite teenagers to teach computer skills at the senior center?

We must invest in a new senior center at the Civic Center. We must create local spaces for our teenagers.

We must design our transportation infrastructure to facilitate safe local travel by bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages. Besides healthy living, this can reduce some of our traffic problems. When we design our downtown for people, not cars, then families will spend more time and money there. We should design open spaces that attract people of all ages.

I will challenge our city and staff, who win awards for the quality of our streets, to win an award for the safety of our city for bicyclists and pedestrians.
