By Marshall W. Anstandig

Candidate for Council Member; City of Monte Sereno

This information is provided by the candidate
As an incumbent member of the Monte Sereno City Council, I am walking our neighborhoods to talk with our citizens because YOUR VOTE IS SO IMPORTANT.

I have lived in Monte Sereno for 12 years and have learned a lot about our City and how it functions. I want to find collaborative ways -- with your input -- about what we need now and in the future.

Prior to joining the Council, I served on the Site and Architecture Commission for two years from 2006-2008. I then volunteered and was appointed to complete the remaining two-year term of a retiring council member. Now that the term is coming to an end, I am running for election.

In 2009, I was one of the two Monte Sereno City Council members who voted against paying a monthly salary to members of the City Council. I feel strongly that it should have been a vote of the residents of Monte Sereno, not of Council to pay themselves. As commitment to my position on the issue, I donate 100% of the monthly check I receive to the YWCA of Silicon Valley.

I believe in:

A. Simple and smart government! In a community of our size, government should enable and assist our citizens rather than get in your way.

B. Maintaining what we have in Monte Sereno -- a wonderful community that is rural by nature and supports a wonderful life style for living, raising children, and retiring.

C. Keeping a balanced budget and continuing to provide excellent city services -- like our outstanding police department.

D. Volunteering and serving our community.

I am hopeful that with your support, we can continue to make Monte Sereno a great place to live with sensible, streamlined, effective and efficient government. I hope I can count on your vote.
