Over the past eight years I have worked in our community to improve the quality of education for our students. My commitment to our schools and students is the reason I have decided to run for the Santa Barbara School District Board of Trustees this November. As a former student of our public schools, I know first-hand our schools are good schools but we must work to make them better. This is a particularly challenging time in our school district given the budget cuts we have faced. Despite these challenges, this is also a time our schools and community have come together to support student learning.

  • I have been an effective educator and a promoter of higher education in our community. I have worked with over 3,000 students and over 400 parents. I understand that our community plays a great role in supporting the success of our schools. My work and collaboration in our community is a testament to a broader concept of how we help students achieve success.

  • I have been part of the Santa Barbara community for more than three decades. I bring diverse range of experiences that include serving on a county commission and local nonprofit boards, as well as managing programs focused on student achievement and increasing parental involvement. My work in our schools and our community help me understand how we can leverage community resources and build school partnerships. This is something that is much needed in a time when school revenues are diminishing.

  • I am a candidate who has a deep understanding of our educational system and can bring much needed perspective in students learning and achievement to the Santa Barbara School Board. It is important that our school district have representation from individuals who not only understand policy making and fiscal oversight, but who can also contribute to the understanding of program implementation and the effects it has in our classroom.

If elected to the school board I will advocate for all of our students. I will work with parents, teachers, and administrators to help improve the quality of school programs.

My experience shows a track record of providing effective, energetic and positive leadership within schools and our greater Santa Barbara community.
