My wife Sandi and I moved to Elk Grove in 2003 after having lived in the Churchill Downs area for ten years. Since moving to Elk Grove, I have served as the President of both the Lakeside Owners' Association and the Heritage Lakeside Home Owners' Association. I have also been a member of the City of Elk Grove's Charter Exploratory Committee and Charter Development Commission, and was a founding member of the West Elk Grove Coalition (WEGC). The WEGC was established by Association Board members and activists to ensure that the interests and concerns of those who live in the Stone Lake, Lakeside and Laguna West areas within the City of Elk Grove are heard.

Now I'm proud to be running for and look forward to being elected to serve the on the Board of Directors for the Cosumnes Community Services District (CCSD). This is a great organization and I have seen first-hand both the professional fire and emergency medical services provided within my own neighborhood. Last summer, I stood by and watched a neighbor's backyard fire brought swiftly under control after his BBQ caught his bushes and fence on fire. In early August of this year, my neighbor had a heart attack and survived in large part due the swift care and transport provided by the Fire Department's emergency medical team.

If you are interested in parks and recreational opportunities, they are virtually everywhere within the Elk Grove area. As for the parks, how lucky we are to have so many safe, well-equipped and maintained parks. With over 80 on the books, it can't be easy. And, everyone should take a close look at the vast number of recreational opportunities assembled by the District's staff ......... all readily available and with something for everybody in the family from mom and dad to the tiniest of tots. Once again, it speaks highly of a well-managed and professional staff.

We should all be proud of this fine organization, and I would personally be proud to get your vote and represent you on its Board. When I'm elected, I promise that I will do three things:

(1) ensure that our fire department has the necessary training, equipment and personnel to protect our lives and our property throughout the District's 157 square miles (from Elk Grove to Galt and everywhere in between);

(2) see to it that we continue to have safe, well equipped and maintained parks and recreational opportunities that all our families can enjoy; and

(3) use your hard earned money wisely.

Career Highlights: Now retired, I was in state government for 41 years. In short for something that lasted so long: I worked in highway construction, in a materials and research lab, for Governor Reagan's Efficiency in Government task force, twice Deputy Director for California's Fuel Allocation Office, co-author California's Energy Shortage Contingency Plan, Contracts/Grants/Budget Officer, Educational Program Manager, Research Manager, Chief Advanced Public Transit System Program, member of dozens of Committees, Boards, Commissions, and, former business owner.

Oh, almost forgot my most interesting job: sacking cow manure to sell as fertilizer at Harpaine's Dairy while attending Fresno State University. Maybe "interesting" isn't the best word.
