Candidate for Board Member; Lake Elsinore Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
This page will give you a quick overview of who I am and what I believe.
Who am I? - My wife Mary and I moved to this valley with our family in 1975. Our six children attended and graduated from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District, and I taught history, government, and psychology at Elsinore High from 1975-2008.

What are my qualifications? - In addition to teaching high school, I have served in school improvement leadership positions, taught courses in marriage and family life education, and currently work coordinating social science and teacher education efforts with Riverside County Office of Education.

Vision for Education - I love the acronym REAL when referring to our schools. Our schools need Resources for students to learn and for teachers to engage students and make learning exciting. The school Environment needs to be safe and promote a positive social environment for student growth. Achievement academically, extracurricularly, and growth as an individual is the primary goal of education. Finally, as our students will be seeking different paths, one of the most important goals of education is to prepare them to be Life-long learners so that their growth can continue after leaving our schools.

A different campaign - I would like to run a different campaign. At a time when our schools are struggling for funds, it seems unproductive to spend money on a campaign, when it could be used in our classrooms. I would like to fund raise actively, spend frugally, and return the remaining campaign money to our schools.
