Stop Waste In Spending

By Richard David Boyle

Candidate for Board Member; San Bernardino Community College District

This information is provided by the candidate
California is facing a fiscal crisis with $19 billion shortfall, yet administrators still waste tax money.
As legislators debate over how to fix the budget crisis, and taxpayers are hit with rate hikes, the San Bernardino Community College district wasted $2 million on outside consultants, millions more on travel to luxury vacaton spots, $7000 Hilton lunches and $10 million in pay for about 100 administrators. Yet the district shut down dozens of classes, forced students to pay stiff hikes in fees and laid off great teachers. One "consultant" was paid $332,000 for a part time "job" to explain why Crafton Hills is on probation and could actually lose accreditatiion. This is similar to the scandal in Bell, California.
The only way to stop this fiscal madness and waste is for voters to get rid of the incumbents and elect new leadership to the board that will watch how tax dollars are spent, make sure hard pressed students are not gouged by greedy book publishers, stop the hikes in parking and other fees and ensure the best education anywhere. California once ranked first in the nation, but because of this mismanagement and waste, now ranks 47th in education.
The worst example is the illegal theft, as documented by the auditor, of state child development CalWORKs funds, squandered on administrators' lunches and travel. In 2009 Teachers for a Change testified about these violations of law to the Grand Jury, and the state FPPC filed charges of election fraud against one of the candidates that won a seat on the board. $6000 in fines was returned to the state treasury, a victory for taxpayers and Teachers for a Change.
We need new leadership, that is not bought and paid for by vested interests that care only about making money, and nothing about the welfare of students and taxpayers in San Bernardino County.
This may be the last chance for voters to reverse the trend and elect a new board of trustees that will fight for the rights of students and restore the once great system of education in California.
