I Just do not have alot of endorsements. My biggest fan is my wife, Lisa who made me interview for a month to explain why she should vote for me! I convinced her due to my dedication to service. After eight years of being away from politics at the end of my first term as a councilman; my wife, Lisa and I have decided it is time for my return to public life as a candidate for Brea City Council.

In the past eight years I have not been sitting idle waiting on the sidelines. I have focused on my family and serving my country as a Combat Seabee; a Chief Petty Officer with the Navy Reserves, including a one year mobilization in Iraq (Sept 07-Sept 08). I am proud to say that my five daughters have flourished; with three college graduates and two nurses. My grandson is now five and looking forward to the excitement of the campaign trial.

My time away has taught me patience...unfortunately for our citizens, patience with our current city governance has run its course. We have 52 positions within the City of Brea earning over $100,000 per year, with 18 earning over $200,000. Our city manager is pulling down over $279,000 and he is not even the highest paid. My friends, I am not talking about the unfunded liability of retirements; that is an entire story in itself that has to be addressed. I am speaking about the day to day operations of our city government in Brea that if unchecked will undermine our ability to continue the quality of life we have all come to enjoy. We need Change.

When I left the council, critics said: "He had good ideas, but just didn't know how to count to Three" implying; I should just "come along to get along" with the three of the five council members who did not agree with my conservative opinion. It was said; "my single vote just did not matter", I beg to differ! If just one member of the City of Bell council had the same convictions as I have always had, to do what was right; the people of Bell would not be in such a miserable financial condition. I will guarantee you that the City of Brea will have financial accountability and a Council that will position us to ensure checks and balances are restored by responsive representation that does not defer decisions to city managers who have a direct financial gain in multi-million dollar votes. I will provide the Leadership we need, and The Voice we deserve.

My friends, I need your financial support as soon as possible. It took me two campaigns to realize the need for dollars to support a direct mail response to get out the vote. Mail costs money. Not only do I need your personal support with sign placement and Vote on November 2nd; if you can afford it, I need your financial contributions. Please review the enclosed remittance envelope and let me know if you can assist me in returning a solid voice to responsive governance in Brea. Most importantly, I need your VOTE November, 2nd. Please stand with me.

Most Respectfully,

Steven Vargas, Candidate for Brea City Council
