Achievement Gap

By Janny Catlin Meyer

Candidate for Board Member; Fullerton School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The single most critical issue in closing the achievement gap is getting students to school. One of the greatest motivating factors for student attendance is the elective.
Our first goal in eliminating the achievement gap is getting all kids to attend school. Programs such as music, art, and other electives that motivate students to attend are critical to low achieving schools. If students are at school, interventions, direct instruction, and a standards based enriched/balanced curriculum can be implemented. These are the steps to eliminate the achievement gap, but the students must be in attendance and engaged in learning.
