Councilwoman Michele Martinez in 2006 committed to do the following: Keep our Neighborhood Safe:

  • Investing in Law Enforcement
  • Funding for programs that reduce crime, drug trafficking
  • Improve police response times
  • Building community coalitions to free our neighborhoods from gangs and graffiti

Building More Schools:
  • Provide more additional after-school programs
  • Job training programs
  • Mentorships and Scholarships Creating More Jobs:
  • Provide business incentives to sustain and grow the business community
  • Job creation

Making Safe Parks and Recreation Areas:
  • Create a safe and clean environment
  • Open-Space
  • Joint-Use with the School District
  • Increase more recreational programs

Improving City Services:
  • Efficiency and increased customer service

Councilwoman Michele Martinez focus on the City Council for the last four years has been to improve the quality of life for all residents, with safe neighborhoods, economic development, education, infrastructure improvements, parks/recreation and customer service.

When re-elected to the City Council, Councilwoman Michele Martinez will pledge to:

Support budget strategies that support the City's sustainability in providing quality services:

  • Adopt a City Budget reserve policy
  • Cost Allocation Plan for Enterprise funds (Total cost for providing city services)
  • Work to protect local government revenues from State Raids

Ensure a safe community:

  • Support Hot Spot areas to address gangs and drugs
  • Expand the Santa Ana Police Athletic Activities League (SAPPAL)
  • Expand educational outreach in traffic safety with our schools and neighborhoods
  • Pursue and advocate for grant funding opportunities for public safety
  • Continue to support Graffiti abatement and enforcement

Provide and maintain the city infrastructure and community facilities:

  • Assure the completion of the residential street repair program
  • Help identify funding mechanisms to build a community center and Park in the Station District Development phase 1
  • Pursue and advocate for private and grant funding for a park on McFadden/ Orange

Continue to maintain clean and safe parks and trails Advocate and ensure a healthy, sustainable, well-planned and developed community which supports active living, environmentally friendly and lastly provides a strong and local economy:

  • Support the construction on the Marriott Courtyard at MacArthur Place, Residential Development at Main/ MacArthur, Station District (Phase 1) and One Broadway Plaza
  • Continue to support Businesses and Job Creation, by providing business outreach and services like the W/O/R/K Center that offers a range of services associated with employment, job training and counseling for adults and youths, Job search assistance, Employee referrals and job placement, Industry specific job listings, Unemployment insurance claim filing, Enterprise Zone hiring program assistance, Financing and business development referrals

  • Advocate and support a Pedestrian/ Bike master plan
  • Support and advocate for different modes of public transportation, healthy food options, completer streets, community gardens and open-space
  • Establish and implement City-wide policies that encourage and promote, LEEDS for public and private development and construction technologies that reduce our carbon foot print

Support the development of our neighborhoods, families and youth that stimulates growth and opportunity in leadership, education, arts and cultural:

  • Support our neighborhood associations with the needed resources to be sustainable, safe and clean
  • Expand educational, art and cultural uses at the Grand Central Building
  • Implement the Youth and Family Master Plan and Building a Healthy Community Strategic Plan
  • Continue to strengthen joint-use partnerships with the SAUSD
  • Help seek funding opportunities for library services and Teen Space Centers
