Citizen Representative/Term Limits

By Barry Levinson

Candidate for Council Member; City of Fullerton; 4 Year Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate
I believe that as a city council member my time in that office should be limited to no more than 3 consective terms.
In the beginning of our republic, citizens represented the people in various elected offices for a short time with the understanding they would return to their former occupations.

This must be resurrected again. The benefits of limiting the time spent in one position are many. First, it provides the officeholder with some sense of urgency that he or she has only so much time to represent the people who elected him.

Second, it makes it clear to all that the officeholder is only temporarily representing the people and that he or she fully intends to give this opportunity to some other deserving citizen in the near future.

Third, it hopefully helps to keep the officeholder humble and more in touch with the people.

This November 2, 2010, the voters of Fullerton will be able to vote for term limits for its representatives. I think the time has come for all of us to support this measure.
