Vote for Measure "T"--Term Limits for Laguna Hills City Council

By Barbara D. Kogerman

Candidate for Council Member; City of Laguna Hills

20 years is too long! It's been nearly that long since the current city council was elected. I chaired Measure "T," the grass-roots effort to get Term Limits on the ballot.
Many of the problems facing Laguna Hills stem from the stagnant composition of the Laguna Hills City Council. Today's Council is the exact same Council elected in 1991, almost 20 years ago. Too many of these 20-year Council members have fallen asleep at the switch. A City Council seat should not be a lifetime career for politicians. Term Limits will effectively solve this problem by bringing new leadership with fresh ideas and practices, yet allow for well-respected council members to be returned after a two-year break. In the meantime, every eight years we are guaranteed a spot for new leadership. Term limits will keep Council members from being beholden to interests that no longer serve the city. Term Limits will make Council members more accountable to the peoople.

While others have advocated term limits for years, I have shown the leadership to do something about it. I authored Measure "T," a citizen's initiative on the November ballot that will limit Council members to two continuous 4-year terms.
