As a forty year resident and local businessman in Costa Mesa I have always had a commitment to my community. I have previously served as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner where I fought for open space and preservation of our city's trees as well as improvement to our athletic facilities and parks. As a Planning Commissioner I fought for adequate parking on all projects and worked for over two years to bring overlay zones to our westside to promote a higher quality of life. A little over a year ago I resigned as Vice-Chair of the Planning Commission to accept an appointment as a member of the Board of Directors at Mesa Consolidated Water District.

As your Director my primary interest has been in serving your needs. We are in the midst of doubling our local water supply and in less than two years will be totally independent from costly imported water. This is unlike any other water district in the county. In this last year I have helped implement improved procedures and technologies and in addition have resturctured the District's financial obligations which will result in saving Mesa's customers millions of dollars over the next ten years.

My goal is to have Mesa Consolidated Water District remain a finacially strong, fiscally responsible agency dedicated to good governance and ethical, sound operating practices.

I have recently promoted compensation transparency to the public. This is a time when the citizens need to know where their money is being spent. My compensation as well as others at the District is now on our website. Go to http://www.mesawater.org to view compensation. It is important to know that as a Director I receive no pension despite what others would lead you to believe. I would never vote for a pay raise for the Board and as a Board we voted 5-0 last year to decline a 5% pay raise. We do recieve medical benefits while serving on the Board but are not allowed to "cash out" unused medical allowance as some other elected officials are. I would never vote to allow that or implement medical coverage after our service as Director ends.
