Over Three Decades of Community Involvement

Joe Aguirre is a longtime resident of Placentia, having grown up here and in nearby Fullerton. He has over 38 years of involvement in Placentia because he cares about our city and believes a person must get involved to make a positive difference. His family has been part of Placentia for nearly 100 years and has long been active in the city. Joe's first taste of local government came in Fullerton in 1974, when that city's redevelopment agency tried to condemn his parents' beautiful home to make way for a shopping center. Aided by a 22-year-old college grad named Chris Norby, now Assemblyman Norby, Joe helped his parents win a hard-fought citywide campaign to save their home from the bulldozers. The experience was pivotal in shaping his community involvement and volunteerism. In Placentia, Joe led the fight against eminent domain for redevelopment in recent years and was elected to the City Council in 2006. On Council, he is currently Placentia's Mayor, and has also served as Mayor Pro Tem.
