John O'Connor, a lawyer and resident of San Rafael, has lived in Marin County for 32 years, and is the father of three adult children. His wife Jan runs youth sports camps for U.S. Sports Camps, Inc. of San Rafael.

John graduated from Notre Dame University and the University of Michigan Law School, and has practiced law in the Bay Area for thirty eight years. He spent six years in the United States Attorneys Office in San Francisco, working in both criminal prosecution and civil governmental law suits.

In private practice, John has represented local governments such as San Anselmo, Sausalito, Fairfax, Santa Rosa, Sonoma and Napa Counties. He also represented federal government entities, including the FDIC, FSLIC, RTC, NCUA (National Credit Union Administration), and the United States government.

John served on the Board of Directors of the Big Sisters of Marin, and one year on the merged Board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Marin. He also served as a Board member overseeing the Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinic. In his spare time, John has coached in Little League, both boys and girls CYO basketball, and youth soccer. He has also promoted scholarship programs to enable economically disadvantaged youth to attend summer athletic camps.

Like many of us, John O'Connor feels that the MMWD has not benefited from sound direction, in spite of Marins bountiful natural resources, responsible rate-payers, and a talented work force. MMWD rate-payers have been kept in the dark on crucial financial and environmental issues. John pledges to share with the Districts residents crucial information affecting the Countys long-term future.
