I'm Mary Mangels Zeeb, a candidate for the office of Monterey County Treasurer-Tax Collector.

The No. 1 question I am asked is "so why are you running?"

I'm running because the residents and taxpayers of Monterey County deserve a Treasurer-Tax Collector that is an experienced professional who understands all aspects of the position and takes their fiduciary responsibility seriously. They deserve someone who will work collaboratively with the finance offices to insure taxpayers are not being overtaxed on property. They deserve someone who will insure the safety of all treasury investments while maintaining a positive cash flow for the county, cities, schools and special districts. They deserve someone who will work for their interests and I believe I am that person.

I am currently the Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector for the County of Monterey and have served in that capacity for over 12 years. As the Assistant, I am responsible for developing, preparing and administering the Treasurer's annual $6.7 million dollar budget. I also oversee the county's $1 billion dollar investment portfolio on behalf of the 27 school districts, 126 specials districts and taxpayers of the county. In addition, I currently serve as the department head during any absence of Lou Solton, County Treasurer-Tax Collector.

I have continually endeavored to distinguish myself throughout my career, implementing and improving both programs and services. I have contributed to the success and reputation of the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Department by repeatedly demonstrating my outstanding work ethic, professional knowledge and leadership skills.

For over 30 years I have risen to a leadership capacity in most of my endeavors. Whether in a professional, service related or volunteer activity, I bring my ability to influence people, direct organizations and accomplish objectives. I have consistently demonstrated a high level of community involvement through volunteering my time and service to numerous local charitable and service organizations. Some of my activities and accomplishments include: Director of Admissions, California International Airshow Salinas; Board of Trustees, ARIEL Theatrical; Sponsor Hospitality Committee, California Rodeo Salinas; Salinas High School Booster Club, Graduate of Leadership Salinas Program; Past Board Member, Salinas Jaycees.

I am currently a member of the Association of Governmental Accountants (AGA); Governmental Finance Officer Association (GFOA) and the California Association of County Treasurers and Tax Collectors. I also hold a Master's Degree in Public Administration, a Bachelor's Degree in Management, and an AA in Business Administration.

I am extremely proud to be endorsed by many leaders in this community such as, Lou Solton, Treasurer-Tax Collector; Bruce Adams, VP & COO of Central Coast Federal Credit Union; Bob Perkins, former Executive Director of the Monterey County Farm Bureau; Steve Vagnini, Assessor-Clerk-Recorder; Jack Skillicorn, Auditor-Controller (retired); Tina Del Piero; Steve Villegas, Salinas Councilman; David Pendergrass, Mayor Sand City; Dan Albert Sr. former Mayor of Monterey; Russ Jeffries former Salinas Mayor; Joe Gunter, Salinas Police Department (retired); William Kaelin, Presidio of Monterey Fire Captain and Steve McShane, Agricultural Businessman, just to name a few. In addition I have been endorsed by many county Treasurers throughout the State, the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce, Monterey Bay Central Labor Council + SEIU 521, the Monterey County Herald and the Monterey County Weekly.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to being your next Treasurer-Tax Collector and respectfully ask for your vote on November 2nd.
