Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Salinas; District 3

The McShane Campaign is based on three core issues:

1.) PUBLIC SAFETY: Building strong communities that work hand in hand with public safety to support safe and inviting places to live and work.

• Incentivizing the development of neighborhood associations. Including in these associations a strong tie to neighborhood watch programs.
• Supporting Salinas Firefighters and Police Professionals with modern technology and training to be effective in establishing safe neighborhoods.
• Attracting state, federal and private dollars for city public safety programs and investment including upgraded facilities and equipment.
• Support for strong programs for youth including sports, arts and education outside of the school system.

• Offering strong incentives for businesses to locate and invest in Salinas.
• Expanding Redevelopment Districts to attract investment in strategic areas. This includes a strong effort to preserve existing Redevelopment Districts and their utilization including Oldtown Salinas, Chinatown, and Market Street..
• Streamlining permitting and planning for purposes of a more friendly community to invest in incentivizing green building principals and smart growth.
• With new businesses we can create a strong brand for our city that promotes community pride, tourism and lasting investment on the part of people, business and government.

• We must make decisions like a business, have a budget stick to it and create revenue for Salinas
• When in a financial crisis you don't expand services you must trim, we can not hike up fees and taxes.
• We must combine and or eliminate management staff in the city of Salinas. We look at the best use of the city staff and see where we can trim.
• Taxes are NOT the solution to solving the city's problems. We need private investment and income derived from sources like tourism.
