My Background

In the late 1890's the roots of my family came to Hollister and throughout the years over five generations have called the Hollister, Watsonville, and Salinas area home.

My maternal great-grandparents, Frank and Rose Amsler, lived in Hollister all their lives. Their daughter, Ellen Amsler, married her high school sweetheart Robert "Bob" Arthur. His parents Martin and Alice Arthur, moved to Hollister and later to Watsonville where they lived until they passed away. Both Martin and his son Bob served on the USS Helena. Martin, as a Marine during the Boxer Rebellion, and Bob, in the Navy as a Petty Officer 1st class during WWII. Until retirement, Bob worked at the Moss Landing and Moro Bay P.G.& E. power plants and Ellen as a 4th grade teacher for the Alisal School District

My paternal grandfather, Charles LeBarre, moved to Watsonville after serving in the Army Air corps in WWII. He was awarded the bronze and silver stars. His wife, Doris, still lives in the same home where they raised their 13 children, and enjoys the company of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and is looking forward to the arrival of her great-great-grandchild.

My parents, Mike, a produce broker, and Kay, a retired 7th grade teacher have always been involved in their community.

In the early 1990's I came to Salinas when my grandfather, Bob, became ill. After he passed away, I stayed on to help my grandmother until the day she died. During those years, I attended college, worked for 9 years as a prototype machinist and currently work as an agricultural tech for a California based laboratory collecting samples for several local vineyards and farmers. I met a wonderful woman whom I married and we had a son. While we are no longer married, we both enjoy raising our son together and remain great friends. Of all the things I have experienced in life, there has been nothing more rewarding than being a father.
