Smart Voter Full Biography for Tim Saunders

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Pomona; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate

I served as Pomona City Planning Commissioner (2003-2008) and as Parks and Recreation Commissioner (2002-2003) for District 5. In December 2008, I was appointed by the City Council to fill the vacant District 5 City Council seat created when Elliott Rothman became Mayor.

I'm proud of my years of active involvement within the city of Pomona and beyond the walls of City Hall. I have volunteered hundreds of hours of service with the Boy and Girl Scouts and various Soccer programs (including over 17 years with AYSO). I actively serve on the Blue Ribbon Committee of the Los Angeles County Fair Association, I am an alternate council representative to the Pomona Downtown Property Owners Association and I am a voting member on the Four Corners Transportation Coalition. Additionally, I remain actively involved in the education of Pomona's youth through my participation in our local Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) and Panther Pride Association (PPA). I also see the importance of providing constructive recreational activities for our youth and I am very proud of my efforts in shepherding the development of Veterans Park Soccer Complex during my service on the Parks and Recreation Commission.

I am currently campaigning for the City Council seat for District 5 that will be voted on in the November election. I am committed to continuing the support of my neighborhood and community that I love. In the short time I've been in this office, I have accomplished some very significant things that truly benefit our community. A few of the efforts I am most proud of include: I formed the Phillips Ranch Landscape Committee that met with City officials to review the budget for the landscaping fees paid by Phillips Ranch homeowners via their property taxes. We found that the residents had been double taxed on fees, and we were able to reinstate the previously excluded services provided by the vendor, at no additional charge. The taxing percentage was corrected and we now have full services at the correct price.

I helped coordinate the installation of the stop signs at Old Pomona Road and getting the stop signs and crosswalks installed in front of Decker Elementary School I have held the city accountable for the water pipe replacement caused by less than adequate pipes used by the builder many years ago.

I was part of the committee that brought the Christmas Parade back to downtown Pomona and the re-establishment of the Miss Pomona Pageant.

I am also especially happy to report that I worked with the owner of the Village Shopping area in Pomona to bring a new grocery store to the neighborhood. It will bring a much needed source of easy-access grocery shopping and additional jobs to the Ranch. The company, Grand Mart, has grocery stores in the east, but this store will be their flagship store in the west. We are pleased to have them lead to charge in the re-population of the Village. I am hoping to bring the community activity and involvement back to this important part of our neighborhood. Grand Mart is the first step in this important effort.

I ask that you support my election on November 2, so I can continue the critical work I have already started for our community.
