Melissa grew up in Whittier, but is today a 21-year resident of La Habra with her husband, Michael, who attended Lowell Joint schools with his siblings. They have two daughters - Meagan, who is a 4th grader in the District, and Lauren, who is a high school junior. They have lived 15 years in the Lowell Joint district. The family owns a local small business, Alpha & Omega Lock & Key, and are active members of Calvary Chapel La Habra.

Melissa used her business administration experience to serve as part-time Assistant to the Superintendent of the Lowell Joint District before her position was eliminated due to budget cuts in 2008. She was also a Secretary, then Office Manager for a company in Brea, CA. Since then Melissa has helped her husband grow their local Locksmith business.

Melissa was elected President and to various other positions for a local women's club, has sat on an HOA Board, and has been an active community volunteer.

Melissa has been an active PTA member in two Lowell Joint schools serving as a Board member, Committee head, a Junior Achievement leader, a School Site Council member, and various other duties. She currently serves as a PTA Recording Secretary.
