? 1. Please provide a brief list of your qualifications in bullet format, using an asterisk (*) to represent a bullet.

Answer from Randy Hammock:

  • Los Angeles Superior Court Referee, 2007-present.
  • Current assignment in Dependency Court -- hearing and deciding cases involving the severe physical, emotional and sexual abuse of children by parent(s).

? 2. What are your views on the need for more diversity on the bench and the manner in which the court treats litigants of various ethnic groups?

Answer from Randy Hammock:

I strongly believe that there must be diversity on the bench in order to reflect the multi-cultural demographics of Los Angeles County. However, we should not utilize race or ethnicity as the primary factor in determining whom to elect as a judge. A candidate's qualifications must be the deciding factor. As a currently-sitting judicial officer, I am very sensitive of the manner in which the court treats litigants of various ethnic groups. My goal is to treat everyone with respect and courtesy, regardless of their sex, race, ethnicity, or sexual preference.

? 3. Who are your judicial role-models? Why?

Answer from Randy Hammock:

During my three-plus years on the bench, I believe that there is something I can learn from each of my fellow judicial officers of the Los Angeles Superior Court -- Civility, Candor, Compassion, Competence, Courage.
