Candidate for
Director; Kern Valley Health Care District

My name is Kathryn (Kay) Knight and I am running for my second term as Director of the Kern Valley Healthcare District.

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics/Food Service Management from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After teaching at the high school level for a time, I joined the staff of the Commonwealth of PA, Office of Attorney General, Department of Justice, in Harrisburg PA as a receptionist. I enjoyed the challenges of working with twenty-seven attorneys in my office.

My husband's employment moved us to Las Vegas in the early 1980's, and I began working for Clark County Juvenile Court Services in the Probation Department. It was an enlightening experience to work with troubled youth and realize the importance of building positive influence on the young people I dealt with every day.

We then moved to Merced, CA and I decided to pursue my career in the legal profession. I completed the Criminal Justice and Legal Secretarial courses at Merced College and worked for a Merced law firm for the next fourteen years, when we decided to move to the Kern River Valley.

When we moved to the Kern River Valley, I sought the opportunity to build my own business. "My Sewing Room" has been a delight for me since 1997, to serve the public in an honest and trusting fashion, doing all the tailoring and alterations for valley residents.

I have been married to Bob Knight for 44 years. We raised four children and we have five grandchildren. At home, we care for our dog, cat, and two tortoises.

I attend St. Jude's Chuch. I serve on the Board of Directors of the Kern Valley Hospital Foundation. I am an active member of South Fork Women's Club, and I enjoy the Dam Hatters Red Hat Society.

I look forward to serving another term on the KVHD Board, and I would appreciate your vote.
