Greg Enholm's Candidate Statement of Qualifications for Ballot

By Greg Enholm

Candidate for Board Member; Contra Costa Community College District; Ward 3

This information is provided by the candidate
Greg Enholm's Candidate Statement gives his reasons for wanting to be elected to the Community College Governing Board.
My Name is Greg Enholm.

My age is 56 years old.

My occupation is high school math teacher.

If you were one of 16,235 voting for me in 2006, thank you. I ask you and all others who read this to vote for me in this election. See http://www.GregEnholm.org.

Our excellent community colleges (Contra Costa, Diablo Valley, Los Medanos) have experienced budget cuts causing students to miss classes they need. More cuts are certain.

Contra Costa Community College District's Board made serious mistakes harming faculty and students. A chancellor they hired wasted a million dollars on the "Regional Training Institute" causing a financial crisis resulting in pay cuts. It took too long to fire that chancellor.

No teachers, nor financial experts, nor community leaders are on CCCCD's Board (2 retired professors, 1 builder, 1 county administrator, 1 small bookstore owner).

I was a financial analyst for 17 years before becoming a teacher. My students are thrilled and disappointed by CCCCD courses. A teacher and a financial expert must be on the Board.

As a community leader, the City of Concord council selected me for the Concord Naval Weapons Station reuse committee. Contra Costa County's Supervisors appointed me East County Library Commissioner for 6 years. My CNWS and Contra Costa County Library experience will let me increase community awareness of CCCCD's colleges.

Everyone, especially high school students, should consider CCCCD courses. I pledge to continue taking CCCCD courses as I have since 1998. At least one Board member should have first-hand CCCCD experience.

I believe I have the qualifications and determination to make Contra Costa Community College District's Board more effective as your elected representative.
