Smart Voter Full Biography for Sandra Bonato

Candidate for
Director; Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have served Park District residents since January 2009 when I was appointed to the District Board. Shortly afterwards, we asked the voters to approve a facilities bond measure. I met with many groups that use District facilities, walked precincts, talked with neighbors, and helped with phone banks to educate residents about why Measure E was so important to our community.

Since then, I have served on the committee that interviewed District residents who today form the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee, served on the committee that recommended from among many qualified firms the Project Manager for the District's projects, and served on the Bond Projects Committee reviewing initial project estimates, budgets and schedules. As a real property attorney with a management background, I have a keen experience with large construction projects, contract development, and financial accountability. Those who attend District Board meetings know I am committed to bringing our projects in within budget.

I am currently vice chair of the Board and chair of the Budget Committee. In the last 18 months, I have worked to see that financial reporting to the Board is enhanced and that the Board has the information it needs to discuss and make informed decisions in the open forum and maintain the public trust.

As an attorney, I am analytical and inquiring at Board meetings and urge long-range planning for District property, facilities and programs. I also believe that reaching for dreams in important. As a Board member, I share in wanting to inspire innovative programs, green parks and ball fields, sparkling pools and playgrounds, cultural, historic, art and performance opportunities, and healthy recreation and social interaction of all kinds, for all ages and interests.

I promise to continue vigilant oversight and leadership of the District. Thank you for your support.
