Brentwood is a wonderful community and I want to ensure it remains an excellent place to live by embracing its unique heritage while helping to define its future. That is why, today, I am announcing my candidacy for the Brentwood City Council in this Fall's elections.

I'm running because I share the concerns of Brentwood residents of regional traffic problems, lack of local jobs, financial responsibility and a desire to retain the small-town, family-friendly nature of Brentwood, and believe I can help meet those challenges.

My vision is a Brentwood that is a self-sufficient city where our residents can live, learn, work, worship, shop and play, in town.

In order to implement that vision we must work to strengthen family and community ties through increasing the number of parks and recreational opportunities, increasing economic opportunities so residents will no longer have to travel for work, entertainment and shopping, and completing our regional transportation system.

I believe I am uniquely qualified to help fulfill this vision, due to my experience as a local business owner who works with other local business owners and individuals, and from my experience as Chair of the Brentwood Planning Commission and President of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce.

When the future of our Farmers Market was in jeopardy I fought as the Chamber President to keep it in downtown Brentwood. As Planning Commissioner, I worked to regulate growth in a rational and progressive way to make sure developers built quality housing and needed infrastructure, and voted to approve the new Vineyards project keeping Brentwood the leader for quality of life in the region.

As your next City Councilman, I will help balance responsible growth with needed roads and other infrastructure, as well as work to bring local, well-paying jobs for Brentwood residents. I will work to ensure that Brentwood gets its fair share of transportation dollars for Vasco Road, Highway 4 and that e-BART reaches our city.

I will put to work my education, experience and energy to represent the people of Brentwood and their interests, and get the job done.

I have an established history of service to the community, an appreciation of Brentwood's heritage, and a vision for its future.

I look forward to the campaign, the discussion of issues and getting to know the residents of Brentwood as I walk door-to-door.

I respectfully ask for your vote on November 7th.

Chris Becnel
