I am running for the governing Board of the Chico Unified School District because I see public education as a central principle of democracy. The school board must be the eyes, ears and voice of the community. I value fiscal responsibility, government transparency, and greater accessibility in decision making. In my first term on the Board, I saw firsthand the challenges we face. The fiscal crisis demands bold, courageous approaches. We must also fight.to enhance communication, trust and respect in CUSD. We must build stronger partnerships both within the district as well as with the greater community.

I have taught American literature at CSU, Chico since 1991 and served as Director of University Honors Programs from 2002 until 2006. I hold graduate degrees from Stanford University and the University of Arizona. My husband and I. have two sons in the school district. What I wish for them is the same thing that I will work toward for all children in our district. I want them to feel they received the highest standards of public education to enable them to take their places as tomorrow's leaders. Thank you for your vote.
