My Key Goals for the Paradise Recreation and Park District

By Steve Rodowick

Candidate for Director; Paradise Recreation and Park District

This information is provided by the candidate
Long and short term goals that we can achieve.
There are basically two categories of goals that I would like to accomplish as Board member of the Paradise Recreation and Park District.

In the first category are the long-term goals that I believe any special district of agency should aspire to. Fiscal responsibility and long term planning are goals that the District is well on its way to and I hope to maintain. All across this State, park districts are closing pools, cutting back on maintenance and letting go staff to balance their budget. PRPD has not had to make these sacrifices to any substantial degree because they have displayed the fiscal discipline required to make it though tough economic times. I intend to make it my goal to carry on this discipline.

Another goal is making the PRPD program as inclusive as they can be. Public recreation, both physical and social, is the least expensive form of health care known. Countless studies have shown that being active, being involved and being engaged with ones community is a key factor in maintaining good health; for both children and adults of all ages. An active community is not only healthier, it is happier.

A third long term goal is to have the district create a more sustainable environment within the parks and building facilities. We need to expand on the recycling programs that are only at a few facilities currently and place a recycling container at each site in the district. We need to create drought tolerant landscaping where it is appropriate explore renewable energy sources as technology develops and costs decline.

Examples of short term goals are to see about widening Moore Road as it enters the Ballpark facility, (Or at a minimum, create turnouts) as it is often subject to gridlock between games. Also, I would like to create a more interactive District web site where park reservations and payments can be made as well as team schedules and standing are posted and updated on a regular basis. Additionally, I would like to provide residents of the Concow are of the District with upgraded facilities at Crain Park.

I believe that by developing strong partnerships, maintaining fiscal discipline and taping the creativity of District residents that all these goals are achievable.
