Smart Voter Official Statement for Erik C. Lyon

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Chico Unified School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Like many, I have been personally impacted by the recession and the debt accumulated by the nation, state, and city via runaway spending and lapse of fiscal responsibility.

Unless Chico and CUSD take action soon, we will exacerbate the financial crisis for our schools and could lose control to the state.

Although the current board has taken steps in the right direction, problems still remain that could heighten an already desperate situation. I firmly believe that things can be reconciled, and through tough decisions and hard work, CUSD can be improved and brought back to fiscal neutrality. The time for reform is now; the status quo is no longer maintainable.

I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist and have been working within the schools for over 5 years now, both in Oroville and in Chico. My experience gives me insight into the school system that is unique. I will work towards fiscal responsibility, early identification of at-risk youth, increased student achievement, success, and safety. I'm not going to provide platitudes about my achievements and make promises; except that I will strive for what is in the best interest of the students, teachers, and community. I ask for your support.
