Test Scores

By Charlie Mensinger

Candidate for Board Member; Newark Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Test Scores have increased 45 points in the last five years; 31 at Newark Junior High School and 12 at Newark Memorial just last year. However, I believe they do not reflect to true extent of our children's learning.
Test Scores have increased 45 points in the last five years; 31 at Newark Junior High School and 12 at Newark Memorial just last year. However, I believe they do not reflect to true extent of our children's learning.

Simply, our scores do not represent the caliber of student NUSD is producing. Our test scores are low yet our students are successfully getting into college. They are successful in vocational schools and representing our nation in the service of our country. We have high quality teachers and staff...

So why are our test scores low? In August, I called for a Task Force to identify what are issues are regarding test scores. Using a letter from Avanzando as the foundation for research, I asked for an item to be placed on the agenda to empower the task force to determine why our children are not reaching their potential.
