Position Papers
Furloughs Hurt the City
Furloughs (negotiated, unpaid days off) are not a long term solution to containing labor costs. They hurt all parties involved, but the customer (citizens receiving the reduced services)most. City must take more permanent measures to bring budget into balance.
Using Redevelopment Fund to Renew our School Structures
Improving school structures using Redevelopment Funds would greatly improve our city's desirability to families, create local jobs, and open housing opportunities in overcrowded attendance areas. This is a good use of redevelopment dollars that has overarching benefits throughout the community.
Fremont's NEW (Hidden) Property Tax
City Council authorize the transferring of responsibility for City planted trees and resulting sidewalk damage to property owners. This amounts to an increase in property tax that was never authorized by 2/3 majority vote, and causes an unfairly high burden, especially to those in older neighborhoods, and seniors on fixed incomes. This decision is unfair, opportunistic and should be repealed.
