California's pension system is unsustainable

By Art Olivier

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 50; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Left unchecked, public pensions, along with our bond debt, have the potential to consume the majority of the state general fund.
California is hurting financially, partially due to the 12,175 retired state and local pensioners making between $100,000 to $500,000 a year. Thousands of more government workers that will make over $100,000 a year plus expensive healthcare benefits are about to retire, some as early as age 50. This will mean higher class sizes in our schools, less police officers on the streets and even higher taxes.

When I was on the City Council, I eliminated lifetime medical benefits for future Council members and myself. To get California out of our financial mess, we need legislators who will unselfishly look out for you instead of the special interest groups that are bankrupting our state.

The special interest groups have never contributed a dime to my campaign. They know that it wouldn't do them any good as I have a long record of looking out for the people.

Born at St. Francis hospital in Lynwood, my roots are in the 50th Assembly district. My grandparents raised my mother in South Gate. Now, my wife Joyce and I are raising our four children in Bellflower. That's four generations in the 50th Assembly district! I have a degree in Design Technology from Cerritos College and a certificate in Advanced Computer Technology from the University of California, Irvine. As the Mayor of Bellflower, I was able to cut taxes and improve services. I will do the same as your Assemblymember.
