California's schools were once the envy of the nation Our K-12 programs ably prepared our children for a bright future. Our network of community colleges, state universities and the University of California system provided our residents with some of the best higher education opportunities in the country. Our vocational schools developed a skilled and innovative work force. To build a Working California we need to support our public schools in a fiscally prudent way.

Larry has experienced almost every aspect of California public education. He is a product of California public schools. He has taken courses in California's community colleges and has seen first hand that they are an essential part of creating opportunity for every California citizen. He has guest lectured in the state university system.

Larry believes passionately in the University of California. He obtained his undergraduate degree from UCLA, where he was undergraduate Student Body President and an Outstanding Graduating Senior, and received his law degree from UC Davis where he met his wife, Marsha. Larry's kids graduated from UCSD and attend UCLA. Larry was an Assistant to the President of the UC.

As a Trustee of the San Juan School District Larry has helped preserve the financial integrity of the district, while supporting a collaborative educational environment that continues to make great strides in student learning. Despite historic financial challenges, Larry has helped the district go forward. Larry has a proven record of improving schools while balancing a budget.

As an Assembly Member, Larry will bring his deep experience and background in education to bear on state policies to make California's education system a source of pride again. He will be a leader on educational policy and bring a powerful commitment to the fundamental importance of public education in California.
