In November 2008, Jerry Hill was elected to the California State Assembly to represent District 19, which includes the cities of Belmont, Brisbane, Burlingame, Daly City, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Hillsborough, Millbrae, Pacifica, San Bruno, San Mateo, and South San Francisco and parts of unincorporated San Mateo County.

As the Chair of both the Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee and the Select Committee on Biotechnology, Jerry has tackled some of the most pressing issues facing California, including healthcare and economic development. Assemblyman Hill is a member of the Budget, Government Organization, Natural Resources, Public Safety and Joint Legislative Budget committees.

In his first Assembly session, Jerry watched 10 of his bills pass through the state legislature; among them were bills addressing important issues including healthcare, highway safety, and the environment. Jerry has most recently introduced legislation that would strengthen penalties for repeat DUI offenders.

Prior to his time on the State Assembly, Jerry served 17 years in local government. Hill spent time as a member of the San Mateo City Council before serving for 10 years as a San Mateo County Supervisor, where he led the effort to expand health insurance coverage to every child in San Mateo County without raising taxes. Hill helped foster a healthy local business climate and helped deliver a balanced budget for San Mateo County with a fair approach of cuts, belt-tightening, and fee increases where appropriate.

Jerry loves the natural beauty of his county and has fought to preserve thousands of acres of parks, open space and coastal areas in San Mateo County, while working to set tough limits on air pollution and global warming emissions.

Hill was a member of the California Air Resources Board and he has served on a number of regional boards including the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the TransBay Joint Powers Authority, the Caltrain Joint Powers Authority, the San Mateo County Transit District and the San Mateo Medical Center.

Jerry received his undergraduate degree from U.C. Berkeley and went on to earn a teaching credential from San Francisco State University. In his private life, Jerry is a business owner and he lives in San Mateo with his wife.
