Smart Voter Full Biography for Robert A. Flutie

Candidate for
United States Representative; District 30; Republican Party

This information is provided by the candidate

My name is Robert Flutie, and I have lived in the 30th district for the past 20 years. I am married to my amazing wife, Maryann, and together we have three beautiful children.

When we came to Southern California, my wife and I started our own business. We have seen it grow throughout the years, we have hired employees and created jobs, and we've seen the business contract or expand in conjunction with the economy and government regulation. I have always believed that long term success within our business has come by bringing in young and talented interns, giving them the knowledge and tools they need to succeed, and watching them grow with the company. I believe that government should hold a similar role - to give hard working Americans the tools and knowledge necessary for success, namely by protecting their Constitutional rights and allowing them to keep the income they earn hard at work.

When Americans are over-regulated and over-taxed, it is the same as giving the employee little freedom and a poor paycheck.

I learned these lessons prior to starting my own company, when I worked in the financial industry. I started out at Dime Savings Bank of New York as a risk analyst. I soon moved to Citibank, and after proving my abilities as an analyst, was trusted with one of the highest risk credit limits in the industry. This was at the age of 25, and a year later I was managing one of the largest divisions in Citigroup, responsible for the work of 30 credit and service personnel.

This experience, coupled with undergraduate degree, involvement in politics (I was the youngest field director for the Reagan/Bush campaign, and I started the College Republicans club at Mercer University), and public service (as a volunteer firefighter) give me a good insight for what needs to be done in Washington today.
