United States House Resolution #2: Universal Daycare

Universal Daycare to be provided by 1% tax on all corporate profits.
United States House Resolution #2: Universal Daycare

WHY IT IS NEEDED: Daycare is expensive. When my wife and I had our son in daycare full time and our daughter in after school daycare part time our monthly bill totaled nearly $1000 dollars, one quarter of our monthly salary. Most of us will have children at some point during our lives and it is essential that they are cared for in a way that we feel good about and at a relatively inexpensive cost to us. While most of us have some kind of daycare center already located at our child's school we generally have to pay for them to attend.

HOW IT WILL BE DONE: We propose developing a childcare center at every school in the United States, kindergarten through eighth grade. Revenue for childcare centers will be generated through a federal Childcare Center Tax on all US corporate profits. In 2007 alone, corporate profits exceeded $6 trillion dollars, a number that was more than twice the entire federal budget for 2007. We propose applying a 1% tax on the $6 trillion dollars in corporate profits which will generate $6 billion dollars (or some $85,0000 dollars per year for each of our 70,000 elementary and middle schools) to develop and maintain quality childcare centers for our children at our local schools.
