Janet Barnes Democrat for State Assembly

28th AD Candidate -- Democrat

I'm Janet Barnes, and I'm running for Assembly to help build a better future, for all of us. My priorities are Safety, Jobs and Education.

I've been a public schoolteacher for 25 years, and a member of the Salinas City Council since 1998. In all my work, I see my mission as giving everyone a fair chance at a good life.

As a City Councilwoman, I've helped protect public safety, improve education, and create jobs. I worked to expand and improve the Salinas police force, establish the Monterey County Gang Task Force, and to bring in the proven anti-violence program Operation Ceasefire. That's why I'm endorsed by the Salinas Police Officers Association.

I've helped bring new jobs to Salinas. In the Assembly I will fight to bring more good jobs that support the quality of life we all treasure.

As an educator, I know that parents and teachers can't go it alone. The state must provide the reforms and resources we need to make California's schools a model for the nation once again. I will work my heart out to help make that happen.

I hold a Master's in Public Policy from CSUMB and the Panetta Institute. I serve on regional boards and commissions. And I'm a mother, and a grandmother.

I will use all my experience to help end Sacramento gridlock and get government back to working on what really matters -- for all of us. I'd be honored to earn your vote.
